Decades ago ... in her previous life ... Miss Effie was an active and accomplished 4-Her.

The demonstrations, public speaking and master of ceremonies contests along with a home economics major, made teaching classes second nature.

I teach classes that I call Heritage Lifestyle classes.  From cheese making to bread baking to canning and preserving .... if your grandmother knew how to do it ... I have tried to learn the basics.

From pre-schoolers to Seniors, we hope you will find Miss Effie's to be a fun and lively educational experience.

For a schedule of our current classes .. check  the  listing

If you are looking for a different educational experience or a "refreshingly informal" public speaker .. feel free to drop me a note. I am open to new and interesting ideas!

Miss Effie's is a must-visit destination. The farm is beautiful - so many flowers and herbs to see, and it's peaceful out in the country. Our daughter loves to run through the open spaces and visit all the furry and feathery friends. Cathy's knowledge of flower farming, canning and chickens is endless... and you must try her homemade jams!

Miss Effie's Country Flowers and Garden Stuff
In the fall, we offer cider pressing experiences for children as young as four years old.  All children will get the opportunity to grind the apples and squeeze the juice .... just like Grandpa did as a child.  After drinking the freshly-made cider ... they will never look at an apple the same way again.  Field trip details are here.
Colleen and I had a great time learning to make mozzarella cheese. Miss Effie showed us what midwestern hospitality is all about. . . .and her country kitchen was authentic.

My antique club met at Miss Effie's for a summer morning to learn more about heritage flowers. Kathy greeted us while doing the family laundry using a 1940s wringer washer. What could be better for a bunch of antique buffs? She walked us around the farm not only telling us about the vintage flowers, but sharing starts for us to take home. The cats! The ducks! The chickens! We couldn't have had a better experience. Thanks Kathy and Cliff.
